ICM Research conducted an online survey of 1043 GB adults aged 18+ in September into consumers views on the transparency of companies.
The survey found that half (52%) of consumers agreed with the statement ‘businesses divulge only what they need to for regulatory purposes’, 25% agreed that businesses divulge only what they need to in order to portray the business in its best light and 12% agreed that businesses deliberately lack transparency in order to make more money.
Furthermore, 38% of the respondents surveyed agreed with the statement ‘By 2012, I would expect all CEO’s and senior business leaders to be visible and accessible to consumers on social media 24 hours a day, 7 days a week’, this figure rose to 47% for those aged 18-24 and those aged 25-34. When asked how quickly they would expect a response from an organisation after complaining via their website or social media, 21% said they would expect a response in 1-4 hours.
