The cost of “cowboy” tradesmen

One in ten (13 per cent) Britons admit to having fallen foul of a rogue tradesman in the past five years with victims having paid an average of nearly £600 to either repair the damage or complete the unfinished job as a result, according to research carried out for Sainsbury’s Home Insurance by ICM Research. The majority of those who have used tradesmen during that time did not shop around for quotes (only 36 per cent did) or ask for a formal written quote (31 per cent did). ICM interviewed a random sample of 2003 adults aged 18+ online between 11th & 13th March 2011.
