With all the media coverage of the price farmers are paid for milk this month, the July poll for Retail Week looks at supplier prices. 7 in 10 consumers don’t feel that farmers are paid a fair price for milk by the retailers that supply them. Consumers are only likely to be willing to pay a little more for milk; very few would pay a lot more. Furthermore, a quarter would not be willing to pay any more for milk. There is further uncertainty as to whether consumers would actually change supermarkets, based on how they think farmers are treated. Milk aside, almost 8 in 10 consumers claim it is important to them that suppliers receive fair prices for all grocery products they buy.
