Guardian Poll – January 2012

The latest Guardian/ICM poll shows a widening of the Conservatives lead to 5-points, with the Blues touching the magical 40-point mark that puts them in reach of an overall majority. The Conservative leadership team also enjoy a sizable lead on economic competence, and only trail Labour by 3-points in their perceived ability to deal with executive pay.

The other big issue of the moment is independence for Scotland, and the poll covers the key questions: as a point of principle should the UK stronger together or as independent nations; should independence for Scots be something they decide alone or should people living in the rest of the UK also have a vote; and should the London government influence the terms of a referendum?
